Knockhill 31 May-01 June 2003

We didn't go - the Y10 will be "hors de combat" for quite a while as funds do not allow for an engine rebuild. All is not lost though, I have dismantled the car completely and separated the head and block. To the untrained eye, the head looks OK, at first glance there is some scoring of the bores but whether this is the cause of the cylinder leakage will have to wait until I can afford a suitable expert eye to check them over. There is now an interim plan - part of my role as the Lancia Motor Club Y10 Advisor is that I tend to collect old Y10s for spares. I have a few Y10 Turbo engines lying around in my garage so the current short term plan is to take the bottom half of one of these, mate up to the existing (and fairly modified) head and put the car back together as a 1049cc turbo rather than 1301, but still running all the fancy injection kit. Should be good for at least 150bhp which will still give me a better power to weight ratio that the Alfa 164 I borrowed for the last race - so although I won't be troubling Messrs Lewis and Thompson at the front of Class B, I should be mixing with the midfield guys at the very least. No great time plan on doing all this - if I get out again this season that will be a bonus.

And so to Knockhill - this was always going to be a worry, more so with the dwindling grids that have been evident this season - but SIX people went to Knockhill, that is very worrying. Class B has been decimated by blown engines to 3 of us (Julian, Phil and myself) and the loss of 2002 Class winner Russ, but where are the rest of you guys? We need to make more effort to get out on track before we find we have no series to race in anymore!

Getting back down off my soapbox - I am indebitted to Motorsport News for carrying the results and a brief report of the two races. For some reason MST World have completely missed Knockhill from their web site, so my usual source of times when I miss a race is absent.

Race one looks like a close battle up front between Tim Lewis and Andy Thompson, with Tim just gaining the upper hand by a fraction of a second.

Race 2 seems to have been a little easier for Tim Lewis as he won this one from Andy by 4 seconds with the rest of the field way behind. It is possible that Bryn Griffiths created another first for UK racing as surely his 156 Sportwagen is the first car in UK racing to DNF through running out of Diesel!

Three weeks time the series is off to Cadwell - not quite so far north. Nyssa Racing will probably be absent once again, but lets hope a few more absentees return for this one.
